Privacy Policy

The short version: we collect what we need to run Onset and make it better. On the free and personal plans, that includes using your voice recordings and transcripts to train and improve our models. On the team plan we do not train models on your data — it is used only to provide the service to you.
What we collect
- Your account. Your email address, and the organisation your account belongs to.
- What you say to Onset. Audio of the things you say to it, and the transcripts made from that audio.
- What Onset did. The commands it carried out, whether they worked, corrections you made, and which application was in front at the time.
- Technical details. Your device model, operating system version, app version and language, and timing measurements about how long things took.
- Billing details for paid plans, handled by our payment provider. We do not store card numbers.
Onset only listens when you have asked it to. It does not record continuously in the background.
Training
Free and personal plans. Your recordings, transcripts and the record of what Onset did may be used to train and improve our models. This is the main reason these plans can be priced the way they are.
Team plan. Data from a team plan organisation is never used to train models — not the audio, not the transcripts, not the commands. It is used only to provide the service to that organisation.
On the free and personal plans you can turn training off for your account at any time from your account settings. Turning it off applies from that point onwards; tell us if you would also like earlier data removed.
How we use what we collect
- To run Onset and carry out what you ask it to do.
- To fix problems, and to measure whether changes make it better or worse.
- To train and improve our models, as described above.
- To bill you, and to answer you when you contact support.
We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who else sees it
We use a small number of service providers — hosting, storage, model providers and payments — who process data on our behalf under contract and may not use it for their own purposes. If you are on a team plan, the administrators of your organisation can see its account settings and usage. We will disclose data if the law requires it, and we will tell you unless we are prohibited from doing so.
Where it is kept, and for how long
Data is stored on servers operated by our hosting provider and is encrypted in transit and at rest. We keep recordings and transcripts for as long as your account is active, and delete them within 30 days of your account being deleted, except where we are required to keep records for longer. Data already incorporated into a trained model cannot be extracted from it, and deletion applies to the stored data rather than to models already trained.
Your choices
- Turn off training for your account, on the free and personal plans.
- Turn off recording of audio, or of transcripts, in the app’s settings.
- Ask for a copy of your data, or ask us to delete it.
- Delete your account, which deletes the data associated with it.
Depending on where you live you may have further rights — to correct data, to object to processing, or to complain to a data protection authority. Write to us and we will help.
Children
Onset is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters — particularly anything about training — we will tell you by email before it takes effect.
